About Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension Services

Driving agricultural transformation, food security, and rural empowerment through scientific innovation at Federal University Dutse.

Establishment & Mandate

Institutional Mandate

The Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension Services (CARES) was established under the visionary leadership of Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa State, Nigeria. Positioned in the agricultural heartland of the Sudan and Sahel savanna agro-ecological belts, CARES serves as the university's premier translational research hub.

Our core mandate encompasses conducting cutting-edge applied agricultural research, developing climate-resilient farming techniques, conducting high-yield seed and livestock evaluations, and disseminating practical knowledge directly to farmers through modernized agricultural extension systems.

Our Vision

To become a leading centre of excellence in agricultural research, smart agro-technologies, and participatory rural extension in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our Mission

To generate innovative, climate-smart agricultural technologies and deploy effective extension methodologies that enhance farm productivity, alleviate poverty, and guarantee household food security.

Outreach & Training

Extension & Community Services

CARES works in close collaboration with the Jigawa State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (JARDA), Agricultural Development Programmes (ADPs), federal research institutes, and grassroots cooperative societies. Key outreach areas include:
